What is IDP®?

IDP® stands for Immune Defense Proteins

IDP® is a unique, natural Bioactive Protein Complex with proven strong barrier functionality to support the body’s immune system.

The proteins in IDP® are the natural defense proteins isolated from fresh, pasteurised cow's milk. IDP® contains the key milk defense proteins - Lactoferrin, Lactoperoxidase and Immunoglobulin. In addition, IDP® contains over 50 other defense proteins found in milk, designed by nature to provide the cow and her calf with safe and effective immune protection.

New Zealand company Quantec discovered IDP®. It has developed a patented process to extract and concentrate these bioactive proteins in the same ratio that they occur in natural milk, so that their immunity enhancing properties are maximized. This means that IDP® can act in the same way in which nature designed it.

Quantec's research and scientific testing shows that the synergy of the IDP® protein complex is far more potent than recombining the key individual milk defense proteins – Lactoferrin. Lactoperoxidase and Immunoglobulin.

How does it work?

The body’s immune system is made up of a complex network of innate and adaptive components that can adapt and respond to highly diverse challenges.

The microbial population in the gut (the combination of bacteria, archaea, fungi, viruses and microbes), referred to as the gut microbiota, plays a key role in digestion and nutrient absorption, as well as protecting against intestinal pathogens and immune challenges. These commensal (or friendly) bacteria in the gut compete with and help provide resistance against pathogens, and support the immune defences.1

IDP® supports the body’s immune system by providing two lines of defense: antioxidant and immune defense activity to help normalize the body’s immune response, and protect from free radical cell damage.

There is also a strong interdependence between diet, immune system and commensal bacteria. Diet can have a very important influence on the immune system, and the immune system can also affect nutrient uptake. Diet also has a dominant influence on the composition of commensal bacteria, which also influences nutrient absorption.2

The proven barrier functionality of IDP® supports the immune response of the gut microbiome.

Antioxidant

In terms of antioxidant activity, IDP® ranks within the top 10 dried antioxidant fruits, vegetables and spices as indicated by the USDA combined ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) value. This was verified by independent testing conducted by Brunswick Laboratories, MA, USA .
